In some cases, ETA tourist visas are referred. A referred visa will take longer than the standard processing time for an ETA visa. In some cases, the Australian High Commission may request additional information to process the ETA tourist visa.

An ETA referral does not mean your ETA has been refused, it means your details are similar to someone who is of interest to the Australian Government. In this circumstance, the Immigration Department must further confirm that you are not the person that is of interest. This is generally a straightforward process that takes 3 business days to complete, and usually within 24 hours.
If your application for an ETA visa is referred, we will contact you by email to notify you of the delay. Should the Australian High Commission request any additional information we will notify you and put you in direct contact with the High Commission.
As such, you should not make firm travel commitments in advance of an ETA grant. Not all referral can be resolved immediately or within travel deadlines.
The cost of your Australia ETA tourist visa through this site does not cover any appeal process should your application be rejected. Nor can the site take responsibility for travel arrangements that are disrupted due to referral or denied ETA visas.
